"Trail Tales"

Slippery when wet !!!! My first time on any of the Hatfield McCoy trails. I love the area and the little towns like Matewan. Neat history but back to the trials . Had a light rain and even the blue trails along mate creek road area (59) turned to a greasy slippery white knuckle adventure. The green trails were fun enough after that ! Rode 18 into town.Well marked and well maintained . If you want a break (or need to calm your nerves ) take the King coal highway toward Gilbert and soak in the views! Stunning . -Tyce Workman Google Review

Another great stop or starting point along the Hatfield Mccoy trail system in the town of Matawan. There is plenty of great parking and is overflowing with history. It's a friendly quaint town that will make you feel as if you've stepped back in time. The amenities at the trail head are great with modern clean restrooms and showering available. While there be sure to walk across the street to visit the old train depot/historical museum which is free although they do accept donations. Just a stones throw from the trail head parking you'll find all kinds of hidden gems in the way of dining, shopping antiques and accommodations for kicking your shoes of and staying a while.           -Denise Adams Google Review
